Detailed description of Tides Inn, Golden Eagle Golf Course

Tides Inn, The Golden Eagle Golf Course, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Irvington, Virginia. Golden Eagle Golf Club is part of the Tides Inn resort on Carter's Creek at the mouth of the Chesapeake in Virginia's Northern Neck. This course is also open to the public as a daily fee course.

Tides Inn, The Golden Eagle Golf Course opened for play in 1976. The course was designed by George W. Cobb.

The Golden Eagle Golf Course is a traditional parkland design. The course is demanding with tree lined fairways on hilly terrain. Carved out of the beautiful wooded landscape around a 50-acre lake, this Chesapeake Bay golf course has many elevation changes and well-placed bunkers for all skill levels. There are three major water hazards of particular interest which are 5, 9, and 18. Seven and 16 can also play harder than par.

The signature hole is #5, a 463-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot up a sharp dogleg fairway (featuring a "it's farther than it looks" carry, measuring between 80 to 200 yards).

From the championship tees, this par-72 course measures 7,025 yards and has a USGA rating of 74.4 and a slope of 136.

Course is very old but in great shape. Not played very much by members. The best greens and lay out in the area. I play this course every chance I get. It is about an hour and one half from my home but it is worth every bit of the drive to play. Pace of play is great because no one plays it. Very old membership. It is like owning your own course and me and my other three players are the only ones on the course.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
